The Ketchup that is on the market makes me very cranky! It is packed of very unnecessary ingredients. Namely, High Fructose Corn Syrup. First of all, this ingredient is entirely unnecessary, and it is unhealthy. I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of unhealthy ingredients being in my food!
And if we are being honest, homemade is ALWAYS better. And the best part of this ketchup, is that you can adjust the taste to your liking. If you want the ketchup to be more tangy you can add more apple cider vinegar (we prefer tang so we tend to go heavier on the apple cider vinegar), if you want it to be more on the tomato side add some more tomato paste. If you want it to be sweet add more brown sugar.
Once you know how easy it is to make ketchup, I promise you will never buy it from the store ever again. And in my opinion it tastes so much better! And all you need is, tomato paste, tomato sauce, Worcestershire, Brown Sugar, Apple Cider Vinegar, Salt, Pepper, Garlic and Onion Powder. I mean the majority of this is probably in your cabinets right now!
Now you probably won’t have the Worcestershire. And the reason I say that is because the one you have in your cabinet has anchovies or some sort of fish in it. Sorry to disappoint you! I use Wizards Worcestershire Sauce, I found it in Whole Foods, but I am sure you can find it in any health store. And quite frankly I cannot tell the difference from normal Worcestershire and vegan Worcestershire, and I don’t think you will either.
All you need to do is pour all of the ingredients into a small pot and bring to a boil. Let simmer for about 15 minutes. You want the sauce to be thick like the ketchup you buy already bottled. Jar the ketchup and let it cool overnight in the refrigerator. This will allow all of the flavors to meld together!

- Combine all ingredients in a pot, and mix until smooth.

- Cook for an additional 15 minutes, allowing flavors to develop.
- Allow to cool before using.
